The women of Hizb ut Tahrir/ Tunisia held a symposium in the city of Sfax under the title, "Women's Committee & its Relation to the West." It focused on how these committees are a tragedy to women especially towards Muslim women due to the capitalistic system; which these women's committees serve the West's interests. These committees instill the ideas of liberating women by giving women their rights, but in reality it causes corruption. Many questions arose and from the questions that arose were how one contests these committees.

News & Comment Crimeans vote over 90 percent to secede Ukraine for Russia

News:

The Crimea referendum offered voters the choice of seeking annexation with Russia or remaining in Ukraine with greater autonomy. After 50 percent of the ballots were counted, Mikhail Malishev, head of the referendum committee, said more than 95 percent of voters had approved joining Russia. Russian lawmaker Vladimir Zhirinovsky said the annexation could come in as soon as three days, according to Interfax. As soon as the polls closed, the White House again denounced the vote. "The international community will not recognize the results of a poll administered under threats of violence," it said in a statement. (AP 16/03/ 2014) Describing Russia's actions as "dangerous and destabilising", Jay Carney Obama's press secretary condemned the Kremlin for escalating the crisis from a military occupation of Crimea a fortnight ago to carrying out "threatening military exercises on Ukraine's eastern border". He warned its actions would result in "increasing costs". (The Guardian 17/03/2014)

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the referendum was conducted in "full accordance with international law and the U.N. charter."

Comment:

With the three major powers in a scramble over the high percentage of people favoring the secession from Ukraine to be annexed to Russia, they are searching for the illegal ground that the elections were based upon.  Many ethnic Russians in Crimea are elated at the idea of returning to the "Motherland". Whereas the Ukrainian prime minister announced the rejection of the elections.  US and Europe leaders are furious at Russia's complete disregard for the threats of sanctions and possible military action to halt any annexation into Russia.

While Russia has offered a tempting financial aid package as enticement to the people of Crimea, one has to speculate the living standards of Russia and its flailing economy. The US was keen to point that out to Putin. However the stakes are much higher for Putin realizing full well the great advantage Crimea offers to Russia from its vital strategic location, gas and oil pipelines transits, and most importantly the land power. Thus it set the tone for the election from the very start, mobilizing a heavy military presence in Crimea especially in critical areas.

But the focus is on Russia and its realization of its vision for a stronger more fortified Russia protecting its capital, strategic location and its vital pipelines from the creeping tentacles of Europe and the United States. The advantage will be for the nation with the highest stakes.  As Russian soldiers were armed openly in the streets of Crimea; it was a visible display of force and power depicting today's foreign policy of major powers. The nation with the stronger show of force gets its policies into play. Despite the cries of condemnation of high ranking officials worldwide, Putin dismissed them with a mere veto at the Security Council and claiming that Crimeans have the right to vote. Putin understands the vulnerable positions of the US and Europe, treating their threats as mere smoke as the two major powers are not in a position to intercede with military otherwise risk spreading themselves too thin. Therefore Russia proceeded to realize its goals taking advantage of the critical time period especially with the various conflicts worldwide. Putin asserted the election was fully legitimate and will start the annexation as quickly as three days.

Lastly the claims by Europe and the US on what is deemed legal versus illegal is an appalling claim as we bear witness to the countless crimes against humanity and complete trampling of nations' sovereignty. Its long rap sheet includes Syria, Central African Republic, Sudan, Pakistan and so on.

Sadly we live in a time of the strongest most brutal being in the position to dictate what is legal and acceptable as opposed to what is illegal and unacceptable all depending on what is at stake.

Warm Call to the Sincere, Aware and Courageous Youth Rise Up to Remove the Corrupt Ruling Regime which Exploits You and the People, Fails to Fulfil Your Needs and the Needs of the People

Allah (swt) says in the Noble Qur'an,

"You are the Best of Peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and you believe in Allah." [Surah Ali-Imran: 110]

For centuries the Muslim Ummah was the Best of Peoples under the leadership of the Khilafah "Caliphate" state, leading mankind in thoughts and sciences, in ruling, economy, industry, military and all other fields of life. No one played a more vital role than the Muslim youth in achieving this leadership for the Ummah over mankind. History of this Ummah is filled with glories achieved by her youth such as Muhammad Al-Fateh who, at the age of 21, defeated the Byzantines and opened Constantinople for Islam as foretold by RasulAllah (saw), making it the capital city of the Islamic state. There is Tariq ibn Ziyad who conquered Spain when he was only 17 years old and Muhammad bin Qasim who was of the same age when he established a firm foothold for Islam in the Indian subcontinent by defeating Raja Dahir. And Bakhtiyar Khalji, upon whose arrival Lakshmen Sen fled without a fight, was 18 years old when he established Muslim rule in Bengal.

Oh Sincere, Aware and Courageous Youth!

This is your real history, oh Muslim youth. In your glorious past you didn't take false pride in making the largest human flag; rather you played the honourable role of building the largest state in human history. You shook the thrones of tyrants and brought an end to their regimes, freed the oppressed people in land after land, eliminated corruption, tyranny and oppression, and spread the justice of Islam.

Look to your situation now, oh youth. After 43 years, the Awami-BNP ruling regime still fails to provide quality education for you. The public education system in the country is in tatters and the private education system sucks your parents dry. After 43 years, the Awami-BNP regime still fails to provide decent jobs for you, making you run here and there, making you run from embassy to embassy like beggars in search of your livelihood. On the other hand they have divided you, exploited you and used you as political tools and still do so by seducing and engaging you in cheap struggles under empty and false slogans of nationalism, secularism, democracy, spirit of liberation, and people's awakening (Gonojagoron), etc.

They have given a free rein to the local and foreign greedy capitalist corporations like the mobile network operators who simply exploit you as money making machines. Moreover this regime seduces you with Western culture, fashion and drugs etc so that you don't rise up against them and they can keep exploiting you and looting the country.

You do not have a secure future for yourselves under the current regime, let alone leading armies to open lands, spread the justice of Islam or even defend your brothers and sisters who are oppressed, attacked, burnt alive, killed, and raped in nearby Myanmar, forget the land which are afar like what is going on right now in the Central African Republic. This is your current reality, oh Muslim youth.

And look at the situation of the land you live in. Tyrant Hasina has made the country a living hell for the people and the sincere military officers. Arrests and abductions of people and sincere officers has become a norm to create an atmosphere of fear by which to prolong the life of this tyrant, daughter of a tyrant. Islam is under a frenzy of attack from quarters aided and sponsored by the government. Bangladesh is now nothing but a land of death and destruction due to the Awami-BNP alliances' confrontational politics and playing with the lives of the people to serve the foreign powers, the Americans, British, Europeans, Indians, and Chinese. They are equal in handing over the country's resources to the foreign companies. They outdo each other on the level of their corruption... Padma Bridge, Hallmark, Railway gate... The list is endless. All this while they cannot even supply gas to the kitchens of Dhaka, the capital city!

Oh Sincere, Aware and Courageous Youth!

Hizb ut Tahrir calls upon you to rise up to free yourselves and the people. Expressing your frustration and anger and deriding politicians on Facebook, Twitter and blogs is not enough. You have to undertake practical political actions to rid the country of tyrant Hasina and the corrupt Awami-BNP ruling regime; and establish Islamic rule in the country which alone can take care of your affairs and the affairs of the people. The Islamic rule alone can restore your past glory as leaders of mankind. Follow the example of your brothers in the Arab countries who are on the streets chanting at the top of their voice, "The youth demand the downfall of the regime" and "It is for Allah, it is for Allah."

Follow the example of Ibrahim (as) who rose up, defied and declared (وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَامَكُمْ) "And by Allah, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols..." [Surah Al-Anbiya': 57]. Ibrahim (as) did this to establish his society upon Allah's Deen, without any fear, when he was a youth and when Nimrod, a bigger tyrant than Hasina, was ruling in the land - (قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ) "They said: "We heard the young man speaking against them, who is called Ibrahim." [Surah Al-Anbiya': 60].

Oh Muslim Youth!

Hizb ut Tahrir puts forth the following programme for you to work and struggle for:

1. Resist the false call for building a Secular Bangladesh and raise the call for establishing Islamic Bangladesh based on the true Aqeedah of "La Ilaha Illallah, Muhammadur RasulAllah."

2. Reject the corrupt Kufr democratic system and the politics of the Awami-BNP alliances.

3. Struggle for establishing Islamic rule, the Khilafah "Caliphate", in the country by removing tyrant Hasina and the Awami-BNP regime.

4. Work tirelessly to create a strong opinion among the people that only the Khilafah "Caliphate" will:

a. Fulfil the basic needs of all men and women in the country i.e. food, clothing, shelter, health, education and security; and facilitate for them the satisfaction of their luxurious needs.

b. Protect the non-Muslim citizens and they will enjoy all the rights in the Khilafah "Caliphate" as the Muslims, without discrimination.

c. End the rampant corruption, looting of people's wealth and the gross wealth inequality by ensuring effective distribution of wealth.

d. Regain the ownership of public property such as oil, gas and coal etc from private and foreign hands, manage these resources for the well-being of the people and rapidly industrialize the economy based on heavy industry, to achieve economic prosperity.

e. Unify the Muslim Ummah, build a strong military and liberate the Muslims from imperialist aggression.

5. Demand from the sincere officers in the military to overthrow tyrant Hasina and the Awami-BNP regime; and provide material support to Hizb ut Tahrir to establish the Khilafah "Caliphate"

Insha'Allah you will have your reward for this noble work and struggle on the Day when there will be no shade other than the shade of Allah (swt). Abu Hurayra (ra) narrated that the Prophet (saw) said,

«سَبْعَةٌ يُظِلُّهُمْ اللَّهُ فِي ظِلِّهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ... وَشَابٌّ نَشَأَ فِي عِبَادَةِ الله... »

"Seven types of people Allah will shade them by His Shade on the Day of Resurrection when there will be no shade except His Shade. They will be ... a young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah..."

Should Muslims be supporting the ‘forbidden' conflict in Syria?

It is exactly 3 years since the peaceful yet powerful call against the regime of Bashar al Assad was met with a violent and merciless response from the regime. Now, the British government has started criminalising those who oppose Bashar's regime. Has something changed? Are they now on Bashar's side?

In fact the stance of global powers like Britain has remained unchanged. From the outset they have done little to hasten Bashar's departure. Politicians like Hillary Clinton and William Hague were measured in their criticisms saying he was a reformer. As his horrific crimes escalated, they simply suggested he should step aside. The missions of Lakhtar Brahimi and Kofi Annan stalled for time. They made lip service against the Bashar's use of chemical weapons.

The truth is they fear losing control of a region that has been under their influence since the settlement of the Sykes-Picot Agreement in World War One - a region that strategically important for its closeness to Iraq, Turkey and the Zionist occupation of Palestine.

For all this time, they have searched for an alternative to Bashar who will secure their interests as well as retaining credibility with the people. Yet all their plotting and planning in Geneva, Qatar and elsewhere has not succeeded in fabricating an opposition that has any credibility with the people.

This stance by the West in the face of mass murder has meant Muslims in Syria came to rely upon Allah alone - and have become very sceptical of any western-linked politicians and suspicious of their political moves. From the earliest days their chants have been Islamic. Their protests carried Islamic titles and brigades were given Islamic names. Even their declared aims for a post-Assad Syria have been overtly Islamic.

Yet, only now Bashar's opponents are labelled as ‘extremists' and ‘Islamists' and their shortcomings are exaggerated in comparison to those of the regime. They have now started arrested Muslims in Britain who have travelled to Syria to help on suspicion of ‘terrorism'. Muslim charities have been investigated for sending sadaqah.

This criminalising of Islam and attacking of the opposition is a message: A message to those in Syria to bow down to Western interests or suffer under Bashar - and a message to those in Britain that they are expected to be more concerned about British foreign policy interests than the Ummah in Syria.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam! Our community must take the correct stand in supporting the Muslims in Syria.
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says

"You are the best Ummah produced for mankind. You enjoin ma'roof (what is right) and forbid munkar (what is wrong) and believe in Allah." [Ali-Imran: 110]

1. Being part of this ‘best Ummah' means we are privileged and obliged to care for what is happening to our brothers and sisters in Syria. So, we must continue to support them with our prayers, our sadaqah and our voices.

The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said

«المُسْلِمُ أَخُو المُسْلِمِ، لَا يَخُونُهُ وَلَا يَكْذِبُهُ وَلَا يَخْذُلُهُ»

A Muslim is a brother to a Muslim. He should neither deceive him nor lie to him, nor leave him without assistance. [At- Tirmidhi].

So we should not abandon the families in the UK who are being punished for their support for Muslims in Syria - whether individuals or charities. In particular, even if some people in the community might consider that it is unwise for Muslims in Britain to go, or that their help is best given other ways; we should never condemn those who go there for an Islamic motivation as ‘criminal' or ‘terrorists'.

They are being called ‘extremists' - just as Muslim women who wear Niqab are called ‘extremists', or Muslim men and women who sit separately in public events. This is all part of the ‘Prevent' policy - a policy of compulsion to their ‘deen' of secular beliefs, liberal values and a Capitalist world of nation states.

2. Enjoining ma'roof and forbidding munkar means being vocal in speaking for what is correct and against what is wrong - even if the Home Office and Foreign Office detest what we are saying, and they use lies, smears and bullying to try to silence us.

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

"Believers! Fear Allah and speak words straight to the point. He will amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great achievement." [al Ahzab: 70-71]

So, we should ask the politicians what business they have in criminalising Islam and Muslims? Does a serious government spend its efforts chasing people who never intended any harm to people in Britain - or should they catch thieves and rapists? Does a serious government chase after Muslim charities that gave sadaqah for Bashar's victims - or clean up the corrupt world of finance that almost wrecked the global economy?

Also, we should vocally oppose and expose today's regional power games by global powers that interfere in the region, in particular their efforts to manufacture an opposition e.g. in Geneva summit. Those who created the structural problems in the region have no credibility in fixing them.

Furthermore, we should vocally support the desires of Muslims in Syria to replace the current oppression with an Islamic system; by redressing the propaganda that such a system would worsen the sectarianism unleashed by Assad or oppresses minorities. Indeed, it is only the Islamic system - the Khilafah "Caliphate" - that unified all people in the region for centuries - before it was fractured by Sykes-Picot, Balfour and a host of other regional power games by global powers. It is because of this system that Christian and Jewish communities were protected and maintained in Bilad al Shaam.

3. Most importantly, we should trust in Allah alone and recall at all times:

((إِنْ يَنْصُرْكُمُ اللَّهُ فَلَا غَالِبَ لَكُمْ وَإِنْ يَخْذُلْكُمْ فَمَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَنْصُرُكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ))

"If Allah is your helper none can overcome you, and if He withdraw His help from you, who is there who can help you after Him? In Allah let believers put their trust." [Ali-Imran:160].
