Special Report on the Protest and Handing Over of Memorandum to Swedish and Dutch Embassy

KUALA LUMPUR 27 January 2023 – Following two separate incidents involving the barbaric and cowardly act of insulting by burning a copy of the Quran, Hizb ut Tahrir / Malaysia (HTM) held a peaceful demonstration and submitted protest memorandums to the Swedish and Dutch Embassies.

On the morning of Friday at about 8:30 am, January 27, around 80 people gathered in front of the Swedish Embassy, Kuala Lumpur to protest the barbaric act of burning the Quran by Rasmus Paludan.

The demonstration began with a march of about 100 meters to the assembly point designated by the Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM). During the demonstration, Ustaz Umar Hussein begin to utter the word of protest against the barbaric actions carried out by the Swedish politician which was authorized by the country's authorities. The demonstrators also chanted slogans and carried banners to express their objection to the barbarity.

The delegation from Hizb ut Tahrir / Malaysia (HTM) then submitted the memorandum containing HTM's objections on this issue to Mr. Robert Lejon who received the memorandum representing the Swedish embassy.

After Friday Congregation Prayer

The peaceful demonstration then continued in the afternoon involving about 100 demonstrators. The demonstrators marched from the Tabung Haji Mosque, Tun Razak Road, Kuala Lumpur towards the Dutch Embassy immediately after the Friday prayers. Muslims who pray at the mosque are called to join the march to protest the cowardly act of Edwin Wagensveld's who tore up and trampling on the Al-Quran. Upon arrival at the embassy, the delegates of HTM submitted the memorandum to Mrs Eva Oskam, the representative of Dutch Embassy.

In addition to objecting to the barbaric act of insulting the Quran, HTM also criticized the principle of freedom of speech held by the West that allowed the heinous incident to happen. In the meantime, HTM also emphasized the importance of struggle to restore the Khilafah (Caliphate) upon the method of the Prophethood that will act decisively in defending the glory of the Quran and protect Muslims from being insulted in such a way. Besides the 100 demonstrators, about 100 other pedestrians nearby listen to the speech by Ustaz Muaz Abu Talhah and Ustaz Umar Hussein.
