 News Right Now: 8 Billion

The world’s population reached 8 billion people on Tuesday, 15th November 2022. This has stirred a lot of discussion amongst population growth international institutions with lots of questions and thoughts of if very soon we would have an overpopulated planet with not enough to take care of the human populace. We even saw Scientists meeting to discuss and even having expanded the world’s measuring unit systems for the first time this century to describe the large increase of numbers.

Although we see the huge number the world has reached today, in fact the 21st century alone played a small contribution to that total, especially in the West. According to the UN, women had an average of 4.5 children in 1970. In 2000, that number had dropped to 2.7 children. This is a dramatic drop. The UN forecasts that in 2050, the global fertility rate will decline to an average of 2.05 births per woman. This could potentially lead to a dramatic decline. The reason we see such a reality today is by no doubt linked to the fact that the understanding of the family structure has been completely redefined. The traditional family model where the mother bears and raises children with the father being the breadwinner has subsided. Women no longer see their role as in the house but now as independent women who can pursue careers at the expense of having children and play a major role economically. The values of family and children have been replaced by individualism and a women’s economic value. This transformation is reflected today in the fall in fertility rates around the world.

Growth rates are dropping across the world, especially in the West, this has also been reflected in the Muslim World too. However, the rates of the developing world still remain well above the replacement rate and this is why the Muslim world, from Indonesia to Morocco will continue to grow for the remainder of the 21st century. Muslims have more children than members of the other major religious groups. Each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, significantly above the next-highest group, with Christians at 2.7 and the average of all non-Muslims with 2.3.

The capitalist system imposed by international institutions is an inhuman system that lacks a way to distribute wealth among people. It is with this shallow mindset they claim that population needs to be kept low and therefore wealth needs to be distributed amongst lower numbers of people. They deliberately place measures to limit growth purely for the sake of benefiting the global economy. The extravagant lifestyle of the developed world as well as their consumption patterns had led to the increasing use of the world’s natural resources and this consumption has ensured the Third world remains in a state of poverty. So it all makes sense to see how the western secular system is so unwilling to acknowledge the value of human life. Thus poverty, hunger and unemployment are all inevitable results. To top this all off, they have the cheek to claim that the increasing population in the Third world is to be blamed for some of the ills in the world.

It should be very clear that the problem of global imbalances lies well and truly in the policies of the western nations. Whilst the Third world drowns in the misery of poverty the governments of the developed world lay the blame on the victims they created for their own misery. The Khilafah has a track record of taking care of the affairs of its citizens and has in its possession a number of policies which will not just ensure all its citizens are catered for but it will place this on the global agenda exposing the West and bringing to an end the exploitative policies of Capitalism.

The Ummah need to truly realize that Allah (swt) revealed the best systems, which perfectly caters to the needs and requirements of humankind. Islam puts the responsibility of taking care of the affairs of people with the Khaleefah, the caliph. A large chunk of Islamic economics is dedicated to ensuring wealth distribution, therefore, the Caliph will be the one to ensure no corruption is taking place, that the Ummah is not suffering and are given their rights and entitlements from Allah (swt)

Allah (swt) says

”Do you not see how Allah has made serviceable to you whatsoever is in the skies and whatsoever is in the earth, and He has loaded you with His favours, both the open and the hidden.” [Surah Luqman verse 20]

Population growth is not an issue and will never be. Allah has told us we are blessed with his favours. All that we need today is that sincere leadership to implement Allah (swt's) system because Only the Islamic State, established by Muslims according to the method of the Prophet (saw), will end the era of evil and deceit and lead all of humanity out of the darkness of ignorance and the cycle of suffering to true development and universal well-being.

May Allah hasten His justice upon us! Ameen
