Their Emergency, Our Security

News:

Trump signs memos to boost US fossil-fuel production for ‘defense readiness’ (The Guardian)

Comment:

President Donald Trump signed a series of memoranda aimed at expanding U.S. fossil fuel production, arguing that current energy supplies are insufficient for national security. Invoking the Defense Production Act, he directed federal agencies - particularly the Department of Energy - to accelerate domestic oil, coal, and natural gas development through financial support and policy measures. The administration framed this effort as essential to maintaining military readiness, industrial capacity, and infrastructure resilience, warning that reliance on inconsistent energy sources could leave the U.S. vulnerable to foreign threats.

The policy shift comes amid rising gas prices linked to geopolitical tensions with Iran, which have disrupted global oil markets and contributed to broader cost-of-living increases. With food and energy prices projected to continue rising in 2026, the administration’s energy strategy is unfolding against a backdrop of growing economic pressure on American consumers.

The current crisis has exposed a structural vulnerability in how deeply both the U.S. and the global economy depend on stable supplies of energy and resources from the Muslim world. Even limited disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have sent oil prices spiking, shaken financial markets, and threatened supply chains worldwide. The fact that Iran alone can trigger inflation, rattle financial systems, and force emergency policy responses in Washington highlights key strengths. Our lands possess significant natural power and potential, derived from our resources, geography, and ability to influence chokepoints that handle a substantial share of global trade.

It is more than evident that capitalism has exposed its frailty. Yet, this exposure has not been fully leveraged, nor is it likely to be within the current global order. Only “we” can do this. The Muslim world already possesses the necessary resources and geographic leverage to reshape global power structures. What is absent is a unifying political structure - a Khilafah (Caliphate) - with the vision, conviction, and strength to deploy these assets. The Muslim Ummah possesses all that is needed to lead the world once more, replacing our fear with security, and simultaneously replacing our foes’ sense of security with fear. Allah (swt) said:

“Allah has promised those of you who believe and do good that He will certainly make them successors in the land, as He did with those before them; and will surely establish for them their faith which He has chosen for them; and will indeed change their fear into security—˹provided that˺ they worship Me, associating nothing with Me. But whoever disbelieves after this ˹promise˺, it is they who will be the rebellious.” [An-Nur: 55].
